How it's made

From log to finished dowel

Every dowel Brizelli ships passes through six tightly controlled stages in our own facility — no outsourced steps, no shortcuts.

  1. Log intake & sawmill

Sustainably sourced logs arrive at our sawmill where they are inspected and bucked to length. Only straight, knot-free sections are selected for dowel production.

  2. Plank cutting & drying

Selected logs are sawn into square-section blanks and stacked in our drying kilns. Controlled drying reduces moisture content to under 8%, preventing warping and shrinkage in the finished product.

  3. Rod milling

Dried blanks are fed through our rod mills, which profile the wood into round-section rods at the required diameter. Continuous gauging ensures diameter tolerances of ±0.1 mm throughout each run.

  4. Dowel cutting & chamfering

Rods are cross-cut to the specified lengths on our gang saws. Each end is then machine-chamfered so the dowel seats cleanly in a blind hole without splitting the surrounding material.

  5. Tumbling & deburring

Cut dowels pass through a rotating drum tumbler that removes splinters, smooths the surface, and breaks any residual sharp edges — a step that makes downstream handling safe and consistent.

  6. Hand selection & dispatch

Every batch is hand-examined before packing. Dowels with splits, discolouration, or out-of-tolerance dimensions are pulled from the run. Approved product is counted, bundled, and dispatched.
